Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20 1964, is an American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first vice president to be female and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she has been the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017, and as the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Her professional career started in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later promoted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was appointed district attorney for San Francisco. She was elected Attorney general of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she won re-election. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for healthcare reform as well as federal de-scheduling cannabis, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She earned national attention for her pointed questioning of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of sexual assault.
